What are the awards?

Rail Visionary 2021 aims to reward innovative and disruptive solutions in three challenges that, in the face of the digital transformation that is taking place, will mark, in the opinion of the organizers, the trends in the rail-based mobility sector during the coming years.

Seven finalist companies will be selected: 2 (two) for each Challenge and 1 (one) additional, and have the opportunity to pitch their solution within the Rail Live program on December 1st.

Who qualifies?

Emerging companies (Startup) and SMEs (according to the definition of http://www.ipyme.org/es-ES/UnionEuropea/UnionEuropea/PoliticaEuropea/Marco/Paginas/NuevaDefinicionPYME.aspx) – micro and small companies, irrespective of nationality.

3 challenges:

1. Digital Mobility

With this challenge, the most fluid intermodality possible is proposed, integrating public and private means of transport, without barriers, comfortable for users but that at the same time guarantees the payment of services, in a transparent and simple way and with the most convenient rate possible.

In this area, questions for which we seek answers are:
  • What will Mobility as a Service of the future look like? (in 1 year, in 5 years, in 10 years)
  • What models and technologies or combinations of technologies can facilitate this intermodality?
  • What barriers prevent the application of existing technologies that could facilitate seamless intermodality?
  • What can public bodies do to promote it?
  • Does the mobility industry need harmonized standards?
  • Regarding users, how to ensure that the mobility of the future is inclusive and personalized, serving the different customer segments based on their needs? What can technology contribute in this regard?

2. Digitization of maintenance: “Doctor Train”

The Doctor Train concept indicates that the train itself incorporates the necessary technologies to be able to anticipate any maintenance need, thus saving costs and time and simplifying maintenance work. The goal =  to keep the train maximum time without unanticipated stops.

In this area, questions for which we seek answers are:
  • What are the future trends in Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) solutions?
  • How to process indicators in real time to anticipate failures and be able to avoid them remotely? And what technologies can help to achieve this?
  • Technologies such as Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence,… are on everyone’s lips, but how can we apply them effectively to ensure maximum train reliability and minimum downtime?

3. Multimodal logistics – “Market Place” Platforms – LaaS.

Market-place platforms for freight transport promise efficient end-to-end intermodal solutions.

In this area, questions for which we seek answers are:
  • How to efficiently integrate the train mode together with the other modes of transport?
  • What solutions minimize environmental impact and improve the global sustainability of transport chains?
  • What role can Blockchain technology play in the digitization of intermodality?
  • How to design Logistics on Demand services? What value can we extract from the data?

What do you win?
